A new piece of TDG research, reported by DigitalSpy, predicts that more than 190 million homes across the world will have a "next-gen" console by 2012.

The report suggests that about 148 million of these systems will be internet enabled; with Xbox Live, PSN or Wii Online accounting for a whopping 110 million of these users.

TDG believe the growing significance of consoles will see more families using the systems to watch television and movies. "Microsoft and Sony know that today's console gamers are perfectly suited for new TV offerings," offered the report's co-writer, Colin Dixon.

Apparently, gamers are increasingly comfortable with online digital media.
